At the beginning of January it is very easy to look forward to the year ahead (which I am also doing with the very predictable usual New Year’s resolutions!) but it always nice to take a few moments to look back at the previous year and take a moment to reflect on the good things that have happened.

Back in September I was lucky enough to be part of Morag and Ray’s wedding, which I am sure you can tell by now was not your usual kind of wedding!

When Morag first mentioned the theme of the wedding to me I got very excited and, I’m not going to lie, a little bit worried (more about that later).  We spent some time discussing how we could incorporate the medieval theme into the hair and make up.  Between us we decided not to use acid, like they would have done, but we would put in a modern twist and use traditional make up.  In medieval times they used to prefer to look as pale as possible so we slightly stuck to that but we decided it wouldn’t be particularly flattering to go overly pale.  As they used to only use charcoal on the eyes we kept them very simple with black liner.

It was when we started discussing the hair that I got a little worried.  As you can see, Morag had a beautiful headdress which was fine but she was also travelling to the wedding venue, Bolton Castle, on horseback.  I loved the idea of this but we were brought back to the modern day of Health and Safety as she had to wear a riding helmet for the journey, hence my worry!  Any horse riders out there will know hat hair is almost unavoidable!!  So we kept the hair very simple and stylish which I think worked well with the amazing costumes.  I also met Morag at the castle to take the helmet off for her and do any final touches.

It really was a very fun day and they all looked out of this world!!!!

The wonderful photographer was Georgina Brewster Photography, I think you will agree she captured the theme of the day perfectly!

I would like to wish you all a wonderful 2017 and I look forward to meeting all the lovely brides and hearing about their own, individual wedding plans.
